I have an existing announcement when my MYQ Garage Door opens:

it says “someone is at the garage door opened”
I have asked it to say “garage door opened”

But

The “someone is at the” gets added.

Is there a way to have it leave “someone is at the” off of the announcement?

If you turn off the doorbell press notifications as Joe indicated, you may encounter a situation where your Alexa does nothing. You'll need to make sure you have a routine created in Alexa with a trigger of "Smart Home" > "Garage Door", and you'll also have to add the action "Skills" > "Open Voice Monkey Smart Home".

On your Alexa app, go to the voice monkey device in question and toggle off the slider for doorbell press notifications
